At the core of The Salvation Army is one simple goal – helping others. It’s the foundation on which the Army was built by William Booth nearly 150 years ago.

Today, we achieve that goal in many ways. Sometimes, it means literally coming into a community and opening our doors – being on site for anyone who needs us.

Recently, The Salvation Army Northwest Division recognized a community that needed more of the organization’s outreach and services. The Marysville-Tulalip areas of Washington (about 50 miles north of Seattle) had some limited services, a few days each week. Now, an office has been opened and services are provided daily.

Located at 7227 44th Avenue NE in Marysville, the office is open Monday through Thursday, 10am to 3pm, and Fridays by appointment.

Gene and Michelle Rutherford are Ministry Leaders for The Salvation Army in Marysville. They’re long-time members of The Salvation Army family and have recently relocated from Vancouver, WA, for the job.

Every Wednesday in Marysville, The Salvation Army hosts a free Community Supper at 5pm. The home-cooked dinner is open to the public, and attendees often include the homeless, senior citizens, and people living on the edge. It’s a nutritious, home-cooked meal – rare for many people these days.

Other services are currently available in Marysville – including after-school homework center for kids and teens. And, soon, a daily breakfast will be offered and a computer lab is scheduled to open. Holiday meals and gifts for kids are planned for this Christmas season.
