The Salvation Army has successfully operated a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Seattle for more than 50 years. Looking ahead, the rehabilitation program will focus on greater long-term success of the participants, by expanding the work therapy opportunities available to program participants. Beginning October 1, the men’s program will transition to a new model, with expanded jobs skills training opportunities, to better position the participants for post-program work opportunities.
Beginning October 1, the men’s rehabilitation program will transition to a new model. The men will be able to learn culinary work in the Army’s future Culinary Arts Program, expected to launch later this year. The program will teach commercial kitchen operations, food safety, cooking, and serving. It will be a 16 week program, with graduates ready for employment in a commercial kitchen or restaurant.
The Army is also preparing other job skills training programs for the upcoming year: construction, administration, and technical skills development are in early stages of planning.
Initially, the number of program participants will be limited to 35 men, due to residential space and program development.
The Army will suspend the women’s rehabilitation program until a new program model is developed. Women who haven’t completed the program by October 1 will be offered a transfer to another rehabilitation program.
