Uber NW Community Impact Initiative: Isabel

Aug 12, 2019 | by NW Division

Working with clients of The Salvation Army’s Pike Street Women’s Shelter requires a substantial amount of patience and creativity. The unknown level of trauma these women have experienced can be triggered by anything. Sometimes clients come to us in a panic because they forgot about an important appointment, or because of the anticipated anxiety of traveling and/or the appointment itself. With the grant from Uber, we can alleviate their sense of anxiety and fear by lifting one task off their shoulders.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed when you have so much going on all at once and still so much to do. By removing one stressor, it allows the rest of the day to not feel as daunting and unattainable. The positive feedback we have received from clients is uplifting. Their outlook on the day changes significantly to the point where they sometimes become more motivated to complete other tasks on their list as well.

The Salvation Army Northwest is honored to be a recipient of the Uber NW Community Impact Initiative. Through this grant, we are able to safely and efficiently meet the needs of Seattle’s most vulnerable populations.
