Spokane Boy Delivers Handmade Blankets to Sally's House

Feb 26, 2019 | by Ally Butler

The Salvation Army of Spokane recently learned that someone's age does not determine the size of their heart. Just two days after Valentine's Day, young Levi made a special delivery of 35 handmade fleece blankets to Sally's House, Spokane's emergency receiving facility for children 2 to 12 years of age who are removed from their home.

While his mother may have helped in creating the blankets, this act of kindness was all Levi's idea. "We worked together as a team," she said, "even by giant flashlight during the power outage, to make his vision a reality." They also received donated fleece blanket kits from neighbors who wanted to support Levi's mission.

These blankets received a special, loving touch from Levi. With every creation, he prayed for the blanket's future owner. His mother explains, "After he completed each blanket he said a prayer for the child who would be using it, none of them were the same, and each one was amazing for me to watch."

The Salvation Army of Spokane is lucky to receive strong community support all-year round, but there is something to be said when a child displays acts of selflessness and charity. Joshua Schulz, the Event and Volunteer Coordinator for The Salvation Army Spokane Citadel Corps, wrote, "His mama is so proud, and we are so grateful. Thank you Levi." Both Levi's mother and the entire Salvation Army Northwest know that there are big things in store for this young boy.

Levi's heartfelt gifts will go a long way, with 20 children staying in Sally's House at a time, but this does not mark the end of his generosity. According to his mother, Levi has increased his handmade blanket goal to 60 in total.
