Donate to our Food Banks

The Salvation Army is collecting donations of tangible items, which will be distributed to local families in need. Non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, and household cleaning supplies are needed and will be added to hundreds of grocery boxes given to the community every week.

The Salvation Army has a long tradition of distributing grocery boxes to local families. At Salvation Army service centers around the Puget Sound region, community members have always been able to visit the food bank to help stretch their grocery budget. Now, as more people are out of work, the number of visits to the food banks have increased—and the availability of food, hygiene items, and household cleaning products is decreasing.

“We are seeing increased need at Salvation Army food banks throughout the region,” reports Lt. Colonel Bill Dickinson, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army in the Northwest. “The guests we regularly serve are needing more items from us, and many new guests are coming to us.” The Salvation Army is reporting an average of 30% increase in neighbors currently needing assistance.

Health and Safety

The Salvation Army has modified its operations at the food banks, to ensure health and safety of guests, volunteers, and staff. Now, the grocery boxes are prepacked by staff or volunteers, and handed to the guest at the front door of the building. The guest’s dietary needs, personal preferences, and special requests are honored.
